Crossing the border for Güzelyurt

If you fly into Larnaca or Paphos, your transfer crosses the Green Line by car. For Güzelyurt we use the Bostancı (Astromeritis) crossing, which sits just south of the town — far quicker than the Nicosia checkpoints most drivers default to. The region is famous above all for its citrus — the Orange Festival each spring is a local institution, filling the town with produce, music and stalls. Just west along the coast lies the ancient city of Soli, with its Roman mosaic floors and hillside theatre, and above it the hilltop Vouni Palace, whose ruins look out over the Mediterranean. In the town itself, the handsome Church of Agios Mamas, now a museum, is the landmark most visitors come to see. It's an easy, local pace you won't find on the busy northern coast — a half-day here pairs perfectly with a beach afternoon at Gemikonağı.
