Ercan Airport — the shortest run
Ercan is the closest airport to Güzelyurt: about 52 km and 50 minutes, entirely in the north, with no border crossing. The road skirts the top of Nicosia and changes little through the day, which makes the departure time for an early flight easy to work out. Almost every flight connects through Turkey, so the ticket usually means one change — but the drive at the other end is the shortest of the three.
A delayed landing is not a problem on this run: book with your flight number and the car waits for the new arrival time at the same fare.
Larnaca Airport — where most direct flights land
Larnaca is in the south and carries most of the direct flights from Europe. The drive to Güzelyurt is roughly 100 km and 105 minutes, crossing the Green Line at a checkpoint. It is routine: you stay in the car, keep your passport to hand, and there is no charge for passengers. For Güzelyurt we use the Bostancı (Astromeritis) crossing rather than routing through Nicosia — it is the faster way west.
Larnaca's advantage is the choice of flights, and often a direct one; the cost is an extra hour on the road and one checkpoint.
Paphos Airport — the western gateway
Paphos looks close to Güzelyurt on a map, but the road loops around the west of the island: about 115 km and 110 minutes, £120 one way. That is why it is both longer and dearer than Larnaca. Still, if you have found a cheap or well-timed direct flight into Paphos, the run works, and it crosses at Bostancı as well.
Which airport should you fly into?
The decision gets clear once you add the transfer to the ticket:
- Ercan — shortest drive, no crossing, lowest transfer fare. If you are happy to connect through Turkey, it is the practical choice for Güzelyurt.
- Larnaca — easiest place to find a direct flight. You pay about £25 more and roughly an extra hour compared with Ercan.
- Paphos — worth it only when the flight is markedly cheaper or better timed; it is the longest and most expensive run on the ground.
The way to tell whether a flight is really cheaper is to set the ticket difference against the transfer difference: the £65 gap between Paphos and Ercan often swallows it.
Travelling as a group or with luggage
The fixed price is per car, so for a family of four the one-way fare divides into a modest cost per head. For groups of up to seven and extra luggage there is a Vito-class vehicle: Larnaca – Güzelyurt £100 (£180 return) and Paphos – Güzelyurt £140 (£250 return).
