About this transfer
This is the longest transfer we run from Larnaca: a hundred and fifty-five kilometres and about two hours and a quarter to the Karpaz hotels, taking in the motorway, the checkpoint, the east coast and then the peninsula road as it narrows towards the tip. It is a proper journey, and it is also the only realistic way to get there.

Good to know on this route
- Karpaz Gate Marina is near Yeni Erenköy; the Theresa and the smaller guesthouses are further out towards Dipkarpaz, another half hour on. Name the property.
- Yeni Erenköy is the last town with fuel, an ATM and a pharmacy. Say the word and the driver stops — there is very little after it.
- Book the return before you travel. There is no rank anywhere on the peninsula and almost no passing traffic, and a two-hour journey is not one to leave to chance.

Two and a quarter hours — is there a faster way to the Karpaz?
Not from Larnaca. Ercan cuts it to about an hour and thirty-five minutes, so if you can route through Turkey it is the shorter road. From a direct European flight this is simply what the journey takes, and it is a single car door to door.
What is the road like at the far end?
Good tarmac as far as Dipkarpaz, then rough track towards Golden Beach. Wild donkeys stand in the road beyond the village, day and night, and they do not move for headlights — the last stretch is taken slowly for that reason.
